The Bruce Trust

The Bruce Trust provides purpose-built, wide-beam canal boats on the Kennet and Avon Canal from two bases, for hire for self catering holidays by disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people and their carers. The Kennet and Avon canal runs through Berkshire and Wiltshire, from the River Thames at Reading to the River Avon at Bath. Three boats operate from Great Bedwyn, near Marlborough. They are ideally situated to cruise towards Newbury and Reading or westward to Devizes and down the Caen Hill Flight. One boat is based at Lower Foxhangers wharf, near Devizes, and is well placed for luxury cruises westward to Bath. Each hire boat has the highest quality accommodation and the ultimate flexibility for people with a wide variety of special needs.

Pewsey Carnival

Pewsey and District Feaste and Carnival is an broad mix of community events and more, which raise substantial funds for local charities, schools, and other local organisations. The carnival’s official first year was in 1898 when there was a cycle carnival. Over the years the procession has been joined by other activities, including the wheelbeero race, which attracts almost 200 teams each year, as well as regular visitors from as far afield as Seattle. Pewsey Carnival descended from Pewsey Feaste, which relates to the feaste of Holy Cross. The procession, nowadays the big culmination of carnival fortnight, was originally overshadowed by the feaste. Its original objective was to raise funds for Savernake Cottage Hospital in Marlborough. Today carnival activities, and its offshoot, Cossor’s Shop, donate money annually to many worthy causes. This year’s procession is on Saturday 20th September.
